Flux by Annie O’Neill
Opening Reception: Thursday, May 16, 2013, 3 – 8 p.m.
253 Collective Art Gallery, 1901 South Jefferson Avenue, Suite 100, Tacoma

DSCF2342ONIELAnnie O’Neill, an east coast transplant, is a 2012 graduate of the Corcoran College of Art + Design, Washington DC. She holds a BFA in Fine Arts.

Flux, Annie’s current series of work, focuses on time and its relation to beauty and success. The series of five small scale collages, focus on the idea of timeless beauty verses time sensitive ascetics. The work also addresses the general flux of the American standard of beauty, particularly the fleeting fashion trends of 1960′s America juxtaposed with the persistent, timeless traditions of beauty in Nuba tribal culture. Recycled materials and re-purposed items are presented as paintings, which discuss the idea of how success is measured and awarded and how that concept changes as we age.

Annie’s first show with Tacoma Art Collective, 253 Collective, opens this Thursday, May 16th as part of 3rd Thursday Tacoma’s Art Mingle. The collective is open Saturdays 12-5pm and the Third Thursdays 3-8pm. 1901 S. Jefferson St., Suite 100, Tacoma WA 98402, Additional Viewing/Lobby hours are M-F, 9 am to 5 pm. Please join us for an opening reception this Thursdays from 3-8pm.

About 253 Collective
In 2009, Tacoma visionary Linda Danforth founded the 253 Collective. The collective is a cooperative of local artists whose goal is to provide a retail location for artwork while keeping the cost to each artist as low as possible. Each artist pays a monthly membership fee, and has an assigned job (marketing, art rotation, etc.). There is no commission collected on anyone’s work, so artists receive the full payment when their work is sold. Visit www.253Collective.com for more information.

About John Wise
John Wise is no stranger to showing and selling his work in galleries. He has painted landscapes, cloudscapes, and seascapes. He paints what he sees, or what he remembers, mostly in nature. “Almost all of what I paint comes from inside my head,” said Wise. For more information visit www.john-wise.fineartamerica.com
